Provo, UT.- As of February 26, 2010, all CHR-6d IMUs shipped by CH Robotics will include new v2.0 firmware, which includes an onboard Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) for automatic pitch and roll angle estimation. The updated firmware makes the CHR-6d a remarkably low-cost, easy to use orientation sensor. Getting yaw and pitch angles is as easy as turning on the unit and reading data off the UART!
The new firmware is backwards-compatible with the old firwmare, so existing systems can use the new IMU firmware without making any changes. By default, pitch and roll angles are estimated but not transmitted over the UART. Pitch and roll angle reporting can be enabled by using the most recent version of the IMU Configuration Software, or by sending a SET_ACTIVE_CHANNELS packet to the IMU (see the CHR-6d Datasheet for more details).
Customers who purchased the CHR-6d before the v2.0 firmware was released can download the new firmware and re-flash their devices. The procedure is actually very simple - see details at the CHR-6d IMU support forum. The new firmware is available for download from the downloads page.
