Ch Robotics Releases new Low-Cost Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS)

Provo, UT.- CH Robotics announces the release of a new low-cost orientation sensor providing yaw, pitch, and roll angle estimates at up to 300 Hz. The CHR-6dm AHRS takes advantage of new commercial MEMS sensors to bring the system cost to a new low.

Even with its low cost, the CHR-6dm does not sacrifice functionality. An onboard Extended Kalman Filter is used to fuse data from accelerometers, rate gyros, and magnetometers to produce accurate angle estimates at up to 300 Hz. In addition, the CHR-6dm includes firmware for automatic gyro bias calibration. The magnetometers can be calibrated for hard and soft iron distortions by connecting the unit to a PC using free, open-source calibration software.

Communication with the CHR-6dm AHRS is performed over a TTL (3.3V) UART interface using a simple and well-documented protocol. The UART pins are 5V tolerant for simple integration with 5V systems.

The CHR-6dm firmware is freely available for advanced users who want to do custom firmware development. An extra UART and an SPI bus are routed out for additional flexibility for custom applications.

The CHR-6dm AHRS will be available for purchase at the end of February, 2010 at a cost of USD 200 per unit in low quantities. Learn more at http://www.chrobotics.com/chr6dm.php
